I Have a Dream…to Not Work on Federal Holidays

So there I was buying my morning pop tarts (35% of my daily allotted calories for my supposed “diet”- whatever fuck skinny jeans) from my friendly office building Korean convenience-shop-with-an-American-name owning guy and the guy next to me in line said “there won’t be protestors outside of the building today!” Of course, I did my polite laugh while not really knowing what he was talking about because that is the socially polite thing to do when a stranger talks to you in line.

For the last few months we have had protestors outside of our office building. No one really knows why they are there, except for the fact that none of them actually work in this building and they were hired to protest for people who actually do so that those people can continue to work and get paid, while still getting the point across that they are pissed off. While this sounds odd, yet strangely smart, it is apparently ATR (all the rage). This is according to the know-it-all girl at work who nodded vigorously when she told me about this new fad a few months ago with the “ummm yeah duh you haven’t heard about this?” attitude that these know-it-all people are known and despised for.

While considering all of this information this morning, it occurred to me. The “protestors” are all African American. I was excited because I parked on level 2 of our office’s parking garage today which is an extremely rare occurrence as I am chronically late. The traffic this morning was not bad. I think I heard my roommate snoring when I left the house this morning. Oh right, its Martin Luther King, Jr. Day today.

Therefore, this blog is my protest. Well, I wanted a hobby and decided to start a blog for that purpose, but the reason I am starting it today during work hours is my protest. Plus I think MLK was a pretty stand up guy who deserves to be observed.
